Thank you for visiting Jacob and Catherine Colella’s Registry Blog! Instead of the traditional registries, we have decided to only register at Target and Nomad Ventures. The reasons are these: we already have a well-stocked home and require few items to complete our household needs. We do need, however, quite a few technical pieces of gear for our honeymoon adventure: The John Muir Trail!

In this blog you will find a list of items that are crucial to the success of our 200+ mile honeymoon hike in the mountains! All of these items can be found or ordered through Nomad Ventures, the little gear shop at which I work.

Before you run off and spend unnecessary amounts of money, please consider this: I can order any of these items at my “pro-purchase” price. Due to policy, however, you cannot buy these items for me at my pro-price. So, if you would like to put money toward an item you will have to go to a Nomad Ventures location (see Nomad Ventures webpage), buy a gift certificate for “Jacob or Catherine Colella,” and then possibly make a note of what you want that money to go toward, or something along those lines.

I know many of you would rather have a physical item to wrap up and bring to the wedding, but please know that Jacob and I appreciate gift certificates, cash, or checks just as much physical gifts!

Directly below are pictures and descriptions of the things we will need for the JMT.

On the right-hand side of the blog is a link to our Target Registry if you would like to look at that. We would also greatly appreciate gift cards to Home Depot, Lowe’s (for our home and yard projects, which are numerous!!), and Trader Joe’s (for buying food stuffs for our JMT trip).

The John Muir Trail Honeymoon

Where are we going for our honeymoon, you ask? On a cruise? No. To a leisurely beach front resort? Nope.
We are going to be back packing the John Muir Trail in the Sierra Nevada range in California. Why would we want to hike for 20 days with all of our food and shelter strapped to our backs? Why would we want to suffer bears and mosquitos? Because the John Muir Trail is over 200 miles of some of the most pristine wilderness in the lower 48 States. It has been a dream of both Jacob and mine for years--even before we had met we had this individual goal. And now this dream will become our reality; our honeymoon adventure!
Perhaps you have never been back packing before. What kinds of things do you need? Here is a general list:

  • back packs
  • tents
  • sleeping bags
  • water purification system
  • stove
  • fuel for the stove
  • cookware
  • the right clothing
  • map
  • compass
  • bear vaults
  • food... lots of food
  • water containers
  • sleeping pads
  • camera
  • many, many other items
All of these items will be packed on our backs. This is why we need the lightest equipment. Thankfully I work at one of the best gear shops in California (if not THE best). So Jacob and I are able to try on and try out gear before we buy it. So the gear we have chosen for our trip has been well researched.

While we will be carrying our food on our backs, we cannot carry enough food for all 200 miles. So we will need to resupply at different locations along the trail. Some camps are so remote that our supplies must be brought in via pack mules! If you would like to contribute financially to having our food delivered to us in the great outdoors, that would be greatly appreciated as well!
